Changes through
Renewable Energy Expansion Act (EAG)
In response to the looming climate crisis, the current government has decided that Austria should become climate-neutral by 2040. Electricity, on the other hand, is to be generated exclusively from renewable energies as early as 2030. The legal basis for this has now been laid with the recently passed Renewable Expansion Act (EAG).
Just how ambitious these goals are becomes clear when one looks at the figures: in order to be able to cover the entire electricity demand on the balance sheet from 2030, an increase of 27 terawatt hours (TWh) is necessary, 11 TWh of which is solar energy alone. This corresponds to a tenfold increase in currently installed capacity (1.6 GW in 2019).
The following innovations are included in the EAEC:
- New support system for PV systems and electricity storage systems
- Facilitation and flat-rate costs for grid access
- Energy communities are made possible
- Regulatory freedom for research & demonstration projects
Subject
for investments:
- PV systems that are newly erected or expanded
- Storage as a new installation in connection with the new installation or expansion of PV systems.
-> Storage units alone are NOT subsidised - Hydropower plants through new construction and/or revitalisation
- New construction of wind turbines
- New construction of biomass plants

Requirements
for funding:
- Combination with Climate and Energy Fund funding not possible
- All necessary approvals or required documents must be available in the first instance at the time of Submission of the funding application
- Construction must start after funding application
- In the case of ground-mounted systems, it must be ensured that the system can be dismantled without leaving any residues.
- For ground-mounted systems, the distance between the lower edge of the module and the ground must be at least 80 cm.
- Row distances between opposing module surfaces must be at least 2 m.
In total, there are
€160 million available
There is an extra 30% surcharge for innovative PV systems. Deduction for ground-mounted systems of -25% on land previously used for agricultural purposes (if used only for PV) and on land.
