Energy transition
Change for our future
neoom is working on the energy transition every day. The biggest lever in the fight against the climate crisis is to obtain energy from sustainable sources.
Decentralised renewable energy makes this possible:
Reduction
of greenhouse gases from electricity production & thus clean air
Democratisation of the energy supply
many people benefit from the production & use of electricity
Resilient power grids & minimising energy losses
during transport via the power grid
Energy transition
We have the solutions
More than two thirds of European greenhouse gas emissions come from the use of fossil fuels for electricity, heat and transport.
We have market-ready solutions based on renewable energies for the majority of these challenges.
At neoom, we work every day to achieve an impact with our products.
Climate protection is important to us - also as a company! That is why we have been calculating neoom's carbon footprint since 2021, deriving reduction measures from this and investing in climate protection projects and innovative technologies to reduce CO2. We attach great importance to transparency and disclose in which areas of the company (scopes) emissions occur and how we take responsibility for our emissions.

neoom becomes the first gigacorn
The goal: to become Gigacorn!
How? By saving one gigatonne of CO2 together!
We want to realise this on 2 levels:
- On the one hand, by measuring and communicating our CO2 emissions as a company and investing in climate protection projects at the same time.
- On the other hand, by supporting our customers in reducing their emissions through neoom solar storage power plants and digital services.
By saving one gigatonne of CO2, neoom would help to reduce almost 25% of the EU's total annual emissions.
We are convinced that all this is only possible if neoom exemplifies how sustainability can be integrated into the corporate model and convinces partners and customers to do the same. Together we can achieve this gigantic goal!
Gigacorn
How much is a gigaton of CO2?
It is virtually impossible to imagine a gigaton.
Here is an attempt to make this figure tangible: One gigaton is 1,000,000,000 tonnes of CO2.
Currently, 55 gigatonnes of CO2 equivalents are emitted globally every year. The EU's share of global emissions is around six per cent.
One gigaton would correspond to a saving of 25 per cent of the EU's annual greenhouse gas emissions.
The goal is to save 1 gigaton of CO2 by 2040, which corresponds to 1.5% of EU emissions in the same period.
Saving 1 gigaton of CO2
the journey towards becoming a gigacorn
To make the ambitious goal of becoming a gigacorn true, we have set ourselves the following goals:
Corporate Carbon Footprint
Since 2021, neoom has been recording its corporate carbon footprint annually and can therefore track exactly where which emissions come from.
neoom's commitment to the environment
The emissions from neoom sites are offset by ambitious climate protection projects.
Recording of product emissions
Since 2023, neoom storage facilities have been included in the CO2 balance.

Corporate Carbon Footprint
What is the ecological footprint?
Many companies are already flying the sustainability flag. The ecological footprint - corporate carbon footprint - is on everyone's lips.
It is the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions that a company produces in a year. It is expressed in CO2 equivalents.
While the calculation is currently voluntary, it is a useful tool for finding out where the biggest sources of emissions lie within a company.
However, there is still a wide range in how detailed the corporate carbon footprint is calculated when selecting the factors used for the calculation.
neoom has opted for a comprehensive approach that includes emissions from all scopes (the supercategories of the calculation).
Corporate Carbon Footprint
How is the Corporate Carbon Footprint calculated?
The corporate carbon footprint is a calculated figure that quantifies how many greenhouse gases a company's business activities emit and what contribution the company therefore makes to global warming. The various greenhouse gases defined in the Kyoto Protocol are converted into so-called CO2 equivalents. For example, the CO2 equivalent of methane is 28, because it contributes 28 times more to global warming than CO2.
The basis for calculating the corporate carbon footprint is the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which summarises the various aspects of business activity in three scopes, defines global minimum standards and establishes a guideline for the extended calculation.
Case neoom
Corporate Carbon Footprint
We have been recording the corporate carbon footprint since 2021.
In 2023 , the CO2 emissions of the neoom supply chain were fully recorded for the first time, including aspects such as purchased goods, logistics or warehouses used by neoom.
The majority of our emissions fall into Scope 3, which is due to the energy-intensive manufacture of our products, such as photovoltaic modules and battery storage systems.
In comparison, Scope 1 and 2 emissions are significantly lower and have already been reduced considerably in recent years.
Although our overall solutions have a large carbon footprint during production, they contribute many times over to CO2 savings over their lifetime.
Between 2019 and 2023, neoom solutions saved more CO2 than they caused and the savings grow annually the longer our solar storage power plants are used.
Our own Scope 1&2 data is the Scope 3 data of other companies.
For most calculations, only Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are mandatory. |
Example of CO2 savings
PV system: 10 kWpeak
neoom solar storage tank: 9.6 kWh

Reducing the CO2 footprint
The primary goal is always to reduce emissions. This is the only way to make a significant contribution to a sustainable climate future. neoom does this primarily through the sale of intelligent solar storage power plants.
Even without a green business model, every company should start reducing emissions at company locations, in its vehicle fleet and when travelling on business. The next step is to reduce supply chain emissions through collaboration with partners.

Support for climate protection projects
Some emissions cannot be completely avoided, which is why we believe it is important to invest in climate protection projects.
The focus here is not on offsetting our emissions at the best price, but on actively supporting a broad and diversified portfolio of projects that contribute to CO2 avoidance and removal worldwide.
For our direct emissions (Scope 1 & 2), we make targeted investments in high-quality carbon removal projects that permanently remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
With regard to operational Scope 3 emissions - categories such as business travel, employee mobility and external data centres - we support projects that prevent and reduce CO2 emissions.
Our portfolio is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and includes a variety of projects that contribute to both reducing emissions and promoting sustainable development.

Recycling of batteries
We ensure that the batteries we place on the market are disposed of and recycled appropriately by paying recycling fees when they are placed on the market. These are due as part of the extended producer responsibility. Throughout the DACH region, end customers can return their neoom storage system to a designated collection point free of charge at the end of its service life. Our recycling partners adhere to the standards of the applicable national battery ordinance and ensure that everything from transport to storage and recycling is done safely and in compliance with the law. Science has now managed to increase the recycling rate for battery cells to >90% and recycling rates of at least 50% are also achieved in practice.
CSRD Conformity
EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive: the first steps
In 2024, neoom has already taken the first steps to meet the requirements of the new EU legislative proposal - well before the company is obliged to submit a report.
The CSRD Directive tightens and standardises reporting obligations across Europe in accordance with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). In addition to the corporate carbon footprint, the CSRD also includes social aspects, regulations on the circular economy and corporate governance issues.
neoom's sustainability department is working continuously to implement the new directive so that all the information required for reporting in 2026 is available smoothly.
Cooperation
at eye level with our sustainable partners
Making the energy transition a reality and ending the climate crisis is neoom's ultimate goal.
This requires cooperation in various areas through which a continuous movement towards this goal takes place.
Climeworks
neoom is particularly pleased to be working with Climeworks. The very young, innovative company enables neoom to go one step further and achieve more than others even dare. Here, the latest technologies are used to reverse emissions that have already been emitted. Even though neoom's focus is always on reducing emissions, some cannot be avoided. With Climeworks' technology, part of this CO2 is directly extracted from the atmosphere (Direct Air Capture) and permanently bound in stone.
ClimatePartner
To collect and offset the corporate carbon footprint, neoom has chosen to work with Climate Partner. The company works with the standards of the GHG Protocol and guarantees that the CO2 compensation certificates purchased meet the highest standards such as Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard. By supporting climate protection projects in developing countries, neoom can on the one hand make an important contribution to closing the financing gap for such projects and on the other hand do justice to the social dimension of sustainability, as the projects help to advance several SDGs.
Recycling partnerships in DACH
With our partners in Austria (Elektro Recycling Austria), Germany (hpm and GRS) and Switzerland (Sens Foundation and Inobat), neoom ensures that all parts of the PV modules and battery storage systems sold can be recycled and reused at the end of their service life. The highest safety requirements apply and state-of-the-art recycling systems achieve legally compliant or higher recycling rates. Smooth removal, disposal and recycling is only possible through our trustworthy recycling partners. We are committed to transparency along the entire end-of-life process.
Systempartners
System partners install unique, holistic neoom solutions in the field of decentralised energy systems. Only through the system partners is it possible for neoom to scale the energy transition and install the products where they have the greatest benefit. neoom is happy to have over 360 system partners in 3 countries in its network and is excited about the far-reaching co-operations that have been concluded here.
CEEZER
CEEZER helps neoom to transparently map and manage the climate protection projects we support. Together, we have created a diverse portfolio and invested in innovative and sustainable projects ranging from biochar to clean energy. We make sure that the projects we support generate CO2 certificates that fulfil high standards. In addition to reducing emissions, climate protection projects help to close the financing gap for these projects and at the same time strengthen the social dimension of sustainability, as the projects contribute to the promotion of several sustainable development goals (SDGs).
