To be able to use GRIID, you need an hourly varying dynamic electricity tariff based on the EPEX Spot - Day Ahead electricity exchange with an electricity price provider.

Please note: This does not include 2-time tariffs, special tariffs that change daily/weekly/monthly or hourly varying tariffs that are not based on the EPEX Spot - Day Ahead Power Exchange.

What is GRIID's dynamic electricity price optimization?

With price-optimized charging from GRIID, you can now save several hundred euros a year in combination with your electricity storage system and an existing dynamic electricity tariff.

The grid charging of your storage system on days when your PV system does not generate enough electricity is optimized fully automatically.

GRIID analyzes the hourly fluctuating electricity prices on the EPEX spot market (day ahead) and controls battery charging so that your storage system is charged at times with low purchase tariffs wherever possible.

Our algorithms are designed to maximize cost efficiency in conjunction with your PV surplus. To achieve this, we use self-learning software that takes into account not only flexible electricity prices but also individual consumption and production data from your location, charging and discharging losses and weather forecasts, and calculates your ideal plan for the next 24 hours. Not only does all this happen completely automatically - GRIID also learns from the past and thus optimizes even better with each passing day. However, you can also intervene manually at any time if necessary.

For example, the storage system is charged cheaply at night. At times of high electricity prices and low PV production, such as in the morning and evening, this electricity can then be used and the storage system discharged. During the day, your own electricity covers the demand and charges the battery.

How does GRIID use dynamic electricity prices on the EPEX spot electricity market (day ahead)?

Our intelligent control system uses the electricity storage system and controllable loads such as heat pumps or charging stations to draw electricity at the most favorable times. More and more often, the electricity price is negative, so you even get money for heating or charging your car. The system is therefore always designed to achieve maximum savings and maximum yield for you.

GRIID refers to the electricity that is traded on the exchange. In addition to the long-term futures markets, there is also very short-term trading on the spot market. The electricity prices for the next day are always fixed on an hourly basis, which gives you the opportunity to purchase electricity mainly when it is particularly cheap and thus reduce your electricity costs.

Until now, the electricity markets and electricity pricing have been too complex to deal with privately and benefit from flexible hourly electricity prices. With an electricity price provider that offers dynamic prices based on the EPEXSpot market and the neoom skill GRIID, this is now very easy and fully automated at .

Companies can also benefit from marketing their commercial storage with GRIID and create an additional lucrative source of income. With flexibility marketing, the storage system is charged and discharged in a targeted manner in order to generate revenue through balancing energy and trading on energy markets. The storage system pays for itself much more quickly thanks to the high remuneration.

The potential savings for an example single-family household are around €310 per year:

Total household consumption per year: 13,200 kWh

Of which electric vehicle with 20 kWh consumption per 100 km and an annual mileage of 20,000 km (corresponds to an energy requirement of 4,000 kWh. Of this, 80% (3,200kWh) is charged at home.

This means you have to draw 6,900kWh of electricity per year from the grid (residual electricity demand) to cover your entire annual electricity demand.

If you were to use a dynamic electricity tariff without neoom CONNECT + GRIID, you would draw electricity according to the average electricity demand load curve. In other words, mainly in the morning and evening hours. But this is exactly when electricity is most expensive. The neoom CONNECT algorithm in conjunction with GRIID automatically shifts your electricity demand load curve so that you draw as much electricity as possible during the hours when it is cheapest.

neoom CONNECT does this by, for example, starting the car charging process at night when electricity is cheap and then charging your storage system with grid electricity when electricity is cheap and you do not have or will not have enough PV production to cover your electricity needs.

The savings depend on this:

how big the difference is between the cheap and expensive electricity price hours (the bigger the difference, the greater the savings potential).
how much electricity demand can be shifted to the hours with low prices.

Assuming that

the effective electricity price difference between the electricity prices at peak times and the hours with low prices is 6 cents
and that the proportion of electricity consumption that can be shifted is 75%,

this results in an annual saving of €310 in the example above. (6,900 kWh electricity requirement from the grid * 0.06 Euro/kWh electricity price difference* 75% = € 310)

The price of electricity on the exchange is determined by supply and demand. This is why electricity is cheap on the exchange at midday, for example, as much cheaper PV electricity is available at this time.
In the past, energy suppliers only offered fixed tariffs where the kWh cost the same at all times. However, with the introduction of smart meters, it is now also possible to take out a dynamic electricity tariff where the price per kWh changes every hour. This is particularly interesting for customers with an intelligent energy management system and a storage system or controllable loads such as heat pumps or e-charging points.

An increasing number of energy suppliers are also offering dynamic tariffs. The e-control tariff calculator, for example, provides an up-to-date price comparison. Switching suppliers is the same as with any other energy tariff.

The EPEX (European Power Exchange) is an exchange for short-term electricity trading for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, among others. Energy suppliers' dynamic rates are generally linked to the price that is formed on this exchange.

Electricity is sold and purchased either on the short-term spot market or on the long-term futures market. The largest spot market for the DACH region is called EPEX Spot, is based in Paris and supplies France, Austria and Switzerland as well as Germany. Electricity that can be delivered at short notice is traded on the spot market. This means that the spot market is used to optimize the generation or consumption portfolio for the next day.
Electricity can be purchased and resold on a one-hour basis. The production of electricity from renewable energy systems (e.g. photovoltaic systems) depends on the weather and is therefore subject to continuous fluctuations. These fluctuations affect electricity prices on the spot market. With GRIID, you can benefit from these fluctuations and automatically purchase electricity when the price is lowest.

You can also choose a dynamic electricity tariff without neoom products. However, you can only benefit from the flexible electricity prices if you also have intelligent energy management and a storage system or controllable loads such as heat pumps, e-charging stations, etc.

This is only possible if you do not receive a subsidy for the energy you feed into the grid.
